2023 KCSE parents to know University fees they will pay from July 31.
The 2023 KCSE cohort will be informed, prior to September admissions, of the precise amount their parents will have to pay in fees, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Education.
Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, declared on Friday that the outcomes of the financing application procedure will be made public on July 31, 2024.
This occurs just a few days after the ministry was given instructions by the National Assembly Committee on Education to send out calling letters for university admission that include precise cost information.
Huge numbers were cited in the summoning letters when the Student Centered Funding Model was first established.
Machogu pointed out that there are three ways to pay for college expenses: household contributions made by parents, government-provided loans and scholarships, and other means.
In order to avoid frightening parents, the MPs requested that the sum paid by the government be left off of all admittance letters.
According to Machogu, students in the 2023 KCSE cohort will be able to apply for financing on the Higher Education financing portal starting on June 15th, ahead of September’s varsity admissions.
“I direct the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) and the Universities Fund (UF) to open the Higher Education Funding portal-www.hef.co.ke on June 15, 2024, to allow the eligible students to apply for funding,” Machogu stated.
“The funding allocation for each component will depend on the assessed level of need of each applicant,” Machogu stated.
According to their admission letters and joining instructions, all first-year students would report to their respective universities as instructed, he said.
Machogu stated that universities will inform all of their first-year students of the amount that parents (household) must pay as soon as the funding application results are made public.
Machogu gave universities and financial organizations the order to start educating stakeholders, parents, and guardians about the Student-Centred financial Model right away.
According to the CS, some parents believe they will have to pay the entire amount stated in the acceptance letters that each university sends out.
Inaugurated in May 2023, the Student-Centred Funding Model went into effect in September of the same year.
Financial help will also be provided to the second batch of students enrolling in universities under the new funding scheme this year.
Machogu stated that KUCCPS has placed 153,274 students in various degree programs at universities out of the 201,146 candidates who passed the 2023 KCSE Examination and qualified for university entry.
