290 County Government Employees Who May Have False Certificates Are Found Out by Audit.
A sample of Governor Ochilo Ayacko’s Human Resources audit was released by the County Government of Migori.
On Thursday, May 16, Governor Ayacko disclosed that about 290 county employees possessed either phony or erratic academic credentials.
Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE), and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) are a few of the certificates that were inspected.
In order to prevent litigation, he emphasized that the names of the personnel implicated would not be released until the proper inquiry was completed.
Ayacko clarified that the results would be sent to the board on Friday for more research.
“According to the report, a total of 290 county employees have no requisite academic qualifications,” he said.
The Governor added that the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), which received the aforementioned certificates, verified that 93 of the documents were fraudulent and that the remaining ones need additional investigation.
In order to identify the workers who are lying about their qualifications for work, he continued, further audits would also look through tertiary academic records.
Notably, government officials and employees who possess forged academic documents have been placed under attention by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
The Public Service Commission (PSC) expressed worry in February that people who had forged certifications were quitting to avoid being taken into custody by the EACC. Along with their documentation, a few of the workers asked for an early retirement.
EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak issued an order in March to immediately stop paying salaries to any civil official who had falsified documents. This came after the PSC study revealed which government agencies had the highest quantity of falsified documents.
“To this end, the Commission advises that all accounting/authorized officers should not process benefits,” he stated.
