After a Crisis, Grade 9 Will Attend Secondary School in 2025.
Students in grade 9 will probably transfer to secondary schools the next year as a result of the government’s efforts to find solutions for the problems plaguing junior secondary schools (JSS).
Lack of resources, including inadequate facilities, teachers, labs, libraries, and training, is one of JSS’s biggest problems.
Ever since the first students under the Competency-Based Curriculum transferred to JSS, the aforementioned issues represent a significant setback.
After this year’s KCSE candidates go, the secondary schools where junior secondary is anticipated to be moved will have equipped labs, accessible libraries, and empty classrooms.
These secondary school amenities are probably going to assist the government in resolving the JSS curriculum issues that primary schools are facing.
Reputable government sources suggest that the current push for adjustments to the next level of learning is motivated by the anticipated shift in Grade Nine and the students’ growing foray into careers.
If the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) adopts the aforementioned resolution, only Grades Seven and Eight will continue to be hosted under primary school, with Grade Nine being shifted to high school.
Kuppet expressed grave concerns, claiming that the Junior Secondary School’s one-year implementation had been a significant difficulty and the root of many issues that needed to be addressed. As such, the program should be halted.
While primary schools are having difficulties, secondary schools have a lot of underutilized resources, according to KUPPET secretary general Akello Misori.
Infrastructure and qualified teachers are not being used in secondary schools at the moment.
One of the issues impacting JSS, according to KUPPET, is a lack of trained teachers. If these students stay in junior secondary schools, this issue is likely to carry over until grade 9.
It takes time to adjust, according to the teachers union, as many of the instructors sent to junior schools are either new teachers or experienced educators.
Another difficulty brought on by the teacher shortage is their lack of knowledge in the subjects they are expected to teach.
The teachers union has also reported that JSS instructors are dissatisfied with their low compensation and has called for a thorough evaluation of JSS.
