Belio: We’re going to build 16,000 classrooms for students in Grade 9.
Belio Kipsang, the principal secretary for basic education, has declared that the ministry will provide 16,000 additional classrooms to house the first class of Grade 9 students in 2025.
According to Belio, the classes will be available for students to enroll in Grade 9 in January 2025.
“We will have 16,000 classrooms available by the time our schools open in January to accommodate students in Grade 9.” This is a duty that the government will see to it that is fulfilled, Belio stated.
According to the PS, it’s critical that students are in a supportive setting.
He added that the government is dedicated to providing human resources to guarantee high-quality education.
“We plan to hire 20,000 teachers in the upcoming fiscal year, which will greatly aid us in executing the junior school curriculum,” Belio stated.
On March 20, Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, disclosed that the ministry does not have 15,021 classrooms ready for the first class of Grads 9 students in 2025.
In response to a question from Senator Eddy Oketch, the nominee, regarding the state’s readiness to accept Grade 9 students, the CS spoke in the Senate.
“After conducting an assessment, the ministry has concluded that there is a 15,021 classroom deficit for students who will be moving up to Grade 9 in 2025,” he stated.
According to Machogu, the ministry has calculated the total number of classrooms needed nationwide each county, and he has presented the results to the Senate.
Regarding the infrastructure requirements for 2025, the CS assured that all the necessary arrangements are in place.
He stated that the NG-CDF is receiving a conditional grant of Sh3.39 billion from the government, which is being dispersed throughout the constituencies in order to obtain infrastructure resources.
According to the CS, classrooms will be built using the conditional grant in order to close the gap.
Machogu stated, “We also agreed that the CDF would match this funding from their allocation so that they will also be able to do another classroom once we build one using this fund.”
“We anticipate being able to do 6000 integrated resource centers for our JSS out of this.”
Machogu added that the State has enlisted the World Bank’s assistance and received an allocation of Sh9 billion for the construction of an additional 9,000 classrooms.
This will result in 15,000 classrooms overall.
“This year, we are putting a lot of effort into making sure that our schools have the infrastructure improvements needed in order for Grade 9 students to be admitted,” he stated.
