Confirmed: all 46,000 JSS teachers will be recruited on a permanent basis.
Over 40,000 Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers will now be absorbed on permanent and pensionable terms, which is a huge win for them.
This was revealed on Tuesday at a press conference held by the National Assembly’s Finance Committee following a Kenya Kwanza Parliamentary Group meeting that was presided over by President William Ruto at the State House.
Shortly before the Finance Bill, 2024 was introduced in Parliament, the PG was called in response to Occupy Parliament demonstrations aimed at pressuring the National Assembly to reject the bill.
The teachers who went on strike last month to demand the same were given Ksh18B for their employment, according to committee chairman Molo MP Kimani Kuria.
“Adequate funds – Ksh18 billion – have been provided for the employment of all 46,000 Junior Secondary teachers who are on internship,” Kuria added in a statement to the Paper.
In order to solve the current shortfall, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is also anticipated to hire an extra 20,000 interns next month.
Additionally, funds have been given to hire 20,000 interns for the upcoming month. Teachers will now be moved from internships to permanent positions with pensions, under the policy, he continued.
Disputed suggestions were withdrawn
Additionally, it was a relief for Kenyans who had fiercely opposed the measure after the committee declared it was abandoning the controversial amendments that would have increased taxes on the country’s citizens.
Involvement of the public is essential to our legal system. We heard you when you talked. The Finance Bill 2024 has experienced substantial modifications in response to the priceless comments received during the public hearing. This administration pays attention to the concerns of its citizens; it is not deaf. The Majority Party Leader, Kimani Ichung’wa, stated, “Your voices have shaped this bill, reflecting our collective aspirations and concerns.”
The lawmaker pledged that the Kenya Kwanza administration was committed to protecting Kenyans from the exorbitant expense of living.
“We need to find a way to increase revenue without burdening Kenyans too much,” Kenya Kwanza is attentive to the people despite its delicate nature. “Together, we are constructing a government that is more responsive and inclusive,” he declared.
The bill will be discussed by MPs starting on Wednesday.
