CS Machogu directs schools to submit status reports by May 8.
CS Education Ezekiel Machogu has instructed boards of management in schools to compile an institutional status report as the nation’s rains continue to wreak havoc.
Machogu directed the regional, county, and subcounty directors of education to submit their findings to the appropriate County Education Boards by May 8, 2024, in a memo.
He stated, “These reports should outline mitigation measures and detail all relevant matters, such as any damage caused to school infrastructure due to the adverse weather conditions.”
Shortly after President William Ruto ordered the Ministry of Education to delay the Second Term reopening of schools till further notice, Machogu issued the decree.
He claimed that the country’s widespread flooding and intense rainfall served as the inspiration for the directive.
“If students have already reported to class, the school administration will keep them there and make sure they are safe and secure, unless there are circumstances that make it safe for them to return home,” Machogu stated.
According to the CS, the board reports are essential for communicating with the National-Government Constituency Development Fund regarding the repair of the damaged infrastructure, among other things.
He also gave the County Education Boards instructions to call urgent meetings in order to evaluate the state of affairs in their various regions and provide the Cabinet Secretary with thorough findings by May 10, 2024.
“Using the provided templates, the Regional Directors of Education shall provide updates on the status of learning institutions in their respective areas on a continuous basis,” he said.
In order to guarantee that the facilities are available for regular learning activities, Machogu added that all field education officers operating in areas where schools are housing displaced people should communicate with the local National Government Administration Officers as soon as possible to identify alternative housing for affected individuals.
In a weekly forecast released on Friday, the Met Department stated that the country’s regions should continue to be battered by intense rains.
The weatherman cautioned Nairobi residents to prepare for extremely heavy rains on Friday and urged the public to keep weather conscious.
