CS Machogu Visits Nairobi Schools Before They Reopen on Monday.
In preparation for the postponed second term reopening on Monday, Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu visited a number of Nairobi schools on Thursday.
Machogu examined the facilities at Karen C School in Langata, Ainsworth Primary School in Kamukunji, Kongoni Primary School in South C, and Toi Primary School in Kibra while on the tour.
“Ahead of the commencement of classes on Monday, May 13, 2024, we monitored the state school infrastructure and the aftermath of the floods in Nairobi County,” Machogu stated on Friday.
The government announced that it will use the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to fund constituency-based interventions at the same time as the inspection tour.
President William Ruto issued an order on Wednesday to resume classes for the second semester, after two delays due to flooding that has devastated the nation since April.
The Kenya Meteorological Department had forecast favorable conditions for the week starting on May 13, according to President Ruto.
The President declared, “We have made sufficient arrangements and all parents are advised on the weathermen’s and the government of Kenya’s assessment that it will now be safe.”
“Therefore, parents must get their kids ready for school as all schools [will] open on Monday of next week.”
Government data shows that 257 people have died as a result of flash floods and landslides that have been reported in various parts of the nation. The most recent casualties in the past 24 hours were five children and 14 adults who died on Thursday.
One of the hardest-hit localities, Mai Mahiu, is included in the total number of fatalities.
On Thursday, the government announced that there were 188 active injuries, affecting 293,661 individuals from 54,837 homes.
