Education Ministry Address Grade 9 Classroom and Teacher Reemployment Issues.
MoE Addresses Problems with Grade 9 Classes and Teacher Recruitment.Belio Kipsang, the principal secretary of Basic Education, revealed plans to build an extra 16,000 classrooms to house the first class of Grade 9 pupils in 2025.
He promised that these classrooms will be completed by January 2025, when Grade 9 pupils would begin attending classes.
Kipsang underlined that the government is dedicated to carrying out this duty and making sure that learning settings are favorable for students.
Acknowledging the significance of offering top-notch education, Kipsang confirmed the government’s commitment to providing the required manpower. In order to help with the junior school curriculum’s implementation, he indicated that the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) would be hiring 20,000 new teachers in the next fiscal year.
Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, responded to Senator Eddy Oketch’s concerns about the arrangements made to house pupils in Grade 9. For the new cohort, Machogu disclosed a shortage of 15,021 classrooms across the country.
He did, however, reassure the Senate that the ministry had evaluated the circumstances and submitted its conclusions.
Various solutions were presented by Machogu to solve the infrastructure deficit. The National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) was given a conditional grant of Sh3.39 billion by the government in order to gain access to infrastructural resources that would be used to construct schools.
Furthermore, Sh9 billion was given by the World Bank to build 9,000 schools, or 15,000 classrooms. According to Machogu, more classrooms would be built since the CDF would equal the money from its allotment.
By creating 6,000 integrated resource centers for junior secondary schools, this initiative sought to improve the nation’s overall infrastructure for education.
Machogu promised that the administration was working hard to make sure that the necessary infrastructure improvements were finished in schools by the time the Grade 9 students were admitted.
