Good News for Teachers: TSC to Implement a Pay Increase in July.
TSC will impact Payrise Teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) will see a pay increase in July, along with other public servants.
Starting tomorrow, July 1, government workers and teachers will see a pay boost of seven to ten percent.
This comes after President William Ruto stated that public personnel must be shielded from the difficult economic environment on Friday, June 30, at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC).
“I am aware that numerous public employee cadres, including government officials, have had their wages increased by the SRC.
Ruto said during the launch of the new e-citizen platform, “As a result, we have decided that starting tomorrow, the pay of our teachers, police officers, military personnel, and government employees will be increased by 7 to 10%.”
The President further asked SRC to delay any pay raises for State officials, including himself, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, the Cabinet, and Principal Secretaries, saying that issues could wait.
Payroll for state officials, including main secretaries, ministers, myself, and my deputy, as well as all other high ranking officials…Ruto continued, “Please wait a little while longer; our pay won’t change.”
SRC suggestion
The SRC recommended increasing Ruto’s salary from Sh1,443,750 to Sh1,546,875 and his deputy’s salary from Sh1,227,188 to Sh1,367,438 starting on July 1.
Other State officers scheduled to receive the 7% salary increase were the Inspector-General, the Director General of the National Intelligence Service, the Attorney General, the Head of the Public Service, Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and the Secretary to the Cabinet.
But the head of state turned down the proposal, saying that salary parity had to be reached before the increase could be implemented.
TSC will impact Payrise I’ve instructed the SRC to equip us with worldwide best practices till July because we need to close the gap between all of us who work for Kenyan citizens before then.
It is impossible for the wealthy to make 100 times as much as the poor because we all live in the same country.
The president stated that the pay raise will have to wait until the compensation committee certifies that the country had crossed the compression formula barrier.
After suffering pay delays earlier in the year, civil personnel can now finally exhale in relief, since the government stated that it was in dire need of funds and had nowhere else to turn.
“I know there was an issue with our salaries being delayed.
Not only are we getting paid late for the first time ever for our salary, but our obligations are also very substantial.
“I want to reassure the nation that is being managed,” said President Ruto.
“I can only assure the country of one thing: we will not take out loans to cover ongoing costs like salaries. The government of Kenya is of that opinion.
Paystubs for teachers
Teachers and other public employees, however, will see a 1.5% deduction from their gross pay on their July paystubs.
The housing fund will receive the savings.
This is still the case even though senator and activist Okiya Omtatah of Busia, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), and three other parties sued in the High Court, winning orders to stop the Finance Act 2024’s implementation until their arguments were heard and determined.
LSK requests that the Act be declared unlawful in their case, arguing that the bill is unconstitutional and that Members of Parliament violated the law, particularly the laws governing public involvement.
After the National Assembly gave its approval, President William Ruto signed the Finance Bill 2024 into law on Monday, June 16.
The Kenya Kwanza government has decided to proceed with its implementation in spite of the court ruling.
