Govt offers free sanitary towels to primary school girls in Kericho through the JSS program.
Through the office of the Women Member of National Assembly, girls in Kericho County’s primary and junior secondary schools have received free sanitary towels from the government.
The kids benefit greatly from the free sanitary pads because most of the girls could not afford the product, which caused them to miss a few days of class each month.
34,176 sanitary towels were distributed to 8,544 girls in the 90 schools in the Kipkelion East Constituency, compared to 27,336 for the females in the Belgut Constituency. Bureti (140,924), Kipkelion West (29,532), and Ainamoi (27,488).
The goal of the initiative, according to WMNA Beatrice Kemei, is to make sure that no girl skips school when she is menstruating. She made this statement during the distribution’s debut at Barotion Primary School in Kipkelion East, Kericho County.
According to her, the biggest issue facing schoolgirls is a shortage of sanitary towels. They had to request free pads from the government because their NGAAF allotment was insufficient to cover this need.
In order to increase cleanliness, the MP also urged the government to supply enough water to schools.
According to Kemei, the County MPs aim to eliminate the stigma associated with menstruation by providing access to high-quality menstruation products, period education, and a welcoming environment.
