Govt Will Not Allow Police Officers to Conduct National Exams.
Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang made a suggestion that the government was eager to remove police officers from their custom of manning national examinations.
Speaking at the Annual Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) Symposium of the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) at the College of Insurance in South C, Nairobi County, Kipsang said the goal of the directive was to let students be authentic and give their best during the exams.
Kipsang made it clear that the new policy orientation would apply to the national exams this year.
“Now is the best moment to modify the way we conduct evaluations. If police officers show up in assessment rooms this year, I’ll be shocked. It’s time to let our kids be kids again, said Kipsang.
At the moment, police personnel are stationed in testing facilities to assist invigilators, offer security, and prevent any disruptions.
Nonetheless, detractors have previously stated that their presence in exam rooms scared students.
The government had previously declared in 2021 that only invigilators and supervisors should handle test papers, prohibiting police officers from doing so.
Furthermore, KNEC Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O.) David Njeng’ere announced in other orders that the government will distribute Grade 9 assessment samples to particular schools.
“We will create instruments for a pilot study that will be carried out in June in selected schools as part of the setup for the Grade 9 summative assessment. Every learner at Junior School will receive sample papers in October to help them understand how they will be evaluated in Grade 9, Njeng’ere said.
Additionally, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) provided an explanation of the curriculum it has implemented to provide educators with an understanding of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
In order to carry out the program, the TSC announced that it was working with partners like KNEC, KICD, KISE, and universities.
