Govt will open Tuesday’s University Funding Application Portal.
The government has declared that beginning Tuesday, June 18, 2024, new students enrolling in universities and technical and vocational schools (TVET) would be able to visit the portal to apply for loans and scholarships.
The government declared that they will open the portal after Eid Al Adha celebrations in a statement released on Monday by Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu.
The statement claims that the portal’s June 15 opening date was originally scheduled, but it was moved up because Monday was declared a national holiday.
The statement said, in part, that the Ministry of Education had announced on June 7th, 2024, that the application portal for loans and scholarships to TVET and university institutions under the Student-Centred Funding Model for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort would open on June 15th, 2024.
The CS went on to explain that the ministry has advanced the date so that Kenyans would have time to get ready and celebrate.
In order to give Kenyans enough time to prepare for and celebrate Eid Al-Adha, Machogu said, “the Ministry of Education decided to move the portal opening date from Saturday, June 15th, 2024 to Tuesday, June 18th, 2024 in solidarity with our Muslim fraternity.”
On the other hand, in accordance with the new regulation, students will shortly have access to the site via which they can submit requests for government money under the new model of university funding.
Students can apply for loans and scholarships by visiting the Higher Education Fund website at www.hef.co.ke.
The government also made it clear that in order to give the applicants enough time, the portal would be available for a considerable amount of time.
But it wasn’t made clear how long the portal will be accessible.
According to the new funding model, financial aid and scholarships for university students will be given out according to the cost of their course of study.
Second, it is anticipated that the funding mechanism will give a student’s financial necessity top priority according to their family background.
