Guidelines are issued by the Ministry of Education as schools resume.
Dr. Belio Kipsang, the Education Principal Secretary for Basic Education, has stressed the need of parent and school management cooperation in order to guarantee student safety ahead of the Monday, May 13th, reopening of the school. This is especially important given the increased risk of waterborne illnesses during floods.
Dr. Belio emphasizes the need for effective disaster preparedness and response by interacting with local authorities, community leaders, and pertinent stakeholders in a circular sent to all regional, county, and sub-county directors of education. Schools are asked to notify students, parents, and guardians of any new developments.
In order to prepare for the arrival of students, go over safety procedures, support impacted students, and report any findings to the Sub-County Director of Education for additional direction and help if required, school heads are directed to hold staff meetings.
Furthermore, school administrators have the responsibility of eliminating obstacles like uniforms and fees, particularly for students impacted by floods. In order to make up for lost time due to flood-related delays, they must also create lesson recovery plans. This will guarantee that the curriculum is successfully covered within the academic year.
