The official launch of the Higher Education Loans Board’s (HELB) application online for the 2024–2025 academic year has been announced.
HELB provides application portals.An image of college students was utilized as an example. The HELB finance application period for higher education is now underway.
With the help of this initiative, new students who are accepted into TVET and university programs run by the Ministry of Education will be able to receive financial aid according to the new funding model.
HELB said that qualified students can apply for loans and scholarships at www.hef.co.ke or through the redesigned official HELB website, Higher Education Financing.
The new program, called HELB, is aimed at TVET trainees in establishments approved by the Ministry of Education as well as first-time university students.
In order to apply for HELB, the following must be present:a working phone number and email address.Exam year, index numbers for KCPE and KCSE.the size of a passport photo.
A duplicate of the Maisha card or National ID (both sides in PDF).under the applicant’s name and ID number, a registered M-Pesa number or valid bank details.
PDF version of birth certificate (if applying on behalf of a minor).a PDF version of the sponsorship letter, if the student is receiving one while in secondary school.
Applications for HELBCandidates must also submit information about their parents or guardians, such as the parents’ national ID number and registered phone number.
A PDF copy of the parent’s death certificate, if applicable.ID numbers and registered phone numbers of two guarantors (who may be parents).
According to HELB’s new funding model, government support for postsecondary education will no longer be provided to all individuals who match the eligibility requirements, as has previously been the case.Candidates will now need to apply for loans and government assistance under the new model in order to pay for their studies.
The government said that it will provide loans and scholarships to 130,485 students attending public colleges, with 9,662 students attending private universities receiving only loans.
