How KUCCPS Determines Which Students Go to Which Universities and Colleges.
Agnes Wahome, Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), described on Tuesday how the agency determines student placement at various tertiary institutions.
Wahome, who addressed at a Stakeholders Forum following the formal release of the 2024 placement results, emphasized three key aspects that were examined.
According to the CEO, the placement procedure was directed by the government’s Placement Policy and Procedure.
The placement service took into account the applicant’s college or university preferences as well as his or her merit or qualifications.
While outlining the selection criteria, the CEO stated that KUCCPS was interested in the specific colleges that the students chose and whether they were qualified to go.
Different courses for both universities and colleges were classified into clusters ranging from 1 to 23.
The clusters are based on subject combinations. A subject combination is a set of at least four subjects that are necessary for a certain course.
To make the procedure easier for applicants, the site calculates a student’s cluster points and displays them after each cluster group.
KUCCPS also took into account the approved capacities of the university or college to which the applicant applied when assigning pupils.
For example, if a university was permitted to have a capacity of 1,000 students, the placement service rigorously followed the established criterion.
“Affirmative action is applied for gender, persons with disabilities, and marginalised regions,” Wahome stated.
“Over the years, the Board has developed robust policies and internal control systems to ensure that the placement process is transparent, efficient, fair, and equitable,” she stated.
