Information About CEMASTEA Training for JSS Teachers in April 2024. In 2024, the Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) will provide junior secondary school teachers with essential training. This is an attempt to help them improve their ability to successfully administer the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
With the help of Cemastea, approximately 9,595 teachers will receive pedagogical topic knowledge that will improve their ability to teach Pre-Technical studies, Agriculture, and Nutrition.
This will make it easier for 60% of junior secondary students to transfer to the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) track in the new senior secondary schools, which is recognized by the government.
Cemastea Raining was developed to close the teaching and learning gaps in Junior Secondary in terms of the interpretation of the CBC designs now in grade 8 in order to aid in the application and realization of learner-centered methods.
The program includes lesson planning for instructors, inquiry-based learning (IBL), creative teaching and learning activities, and the use of ICT in Grade 8 curriculum designs. Teachers from all 47 counties take part in it.
The program further guarantees the improvement of professional advancement by offering advice on communities of practice, the required rationalization of the practical curriculum, and the incorporation of career coaching and mentorship.
It is expected that Cemastea participants in the program—which was conducted at specific locations in Kisumu, Machakos, and Nakuru—will bring the training back to their home counties.
According to the Ministry of Education, funding for CEMASTEA training intervention programs will be made available in order to eliminate gaps in STEM education and give students a fair chance at success in 2024 and beyond.
The government claims that the approach being promoted through the training is crucial to ensuring inclusivity and active student involvement.
