JSS interns succeed as they start receiving permanent jobs on July 1.
The National Assembly’s decision to grant Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers permanent and pensionable terms has finally allowed them to exhale. JSS teachers were hired as interns in January 2023.
TSC reports that starting on July 1st, 2024, 26,000 teachers who worked in the JSS internship program’s initial batch would be hired on a permanent basis.
The teacher interns who conducted street demonstrations to advocate for the P and P terms anticipated confirmation in January 2025.
This is in line with the previous correspondence between President William Ruto and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The internship contracts of a number of intern teachers working in junior schools expire in January 2025.
However, during his remarks on Monday, Julius Melly Monday, the chair of the education committee, informed the Budget and Appropriations Committee that Sh8.3 billion had been set aside in order to hire those instructors.
According to Melly, TSC needs to expedite the hiring procedure to guarantee that the resources allotted to this department are used to their fullest potential at the start of the subsequent fiscal year.
As previously mentioned, TSC plans to convert a total of 26,000 intern instructors to permanent and pensionable terms beginning in July 2024 and January 2025.
At some junior secondary schools across the nation, the teaching and learning processes had come to a standstill as a result of the intern teachers’ significant shift to requiring P and P terms.
Following their absences from class, a few intern teachers have already gotten show-cause letters. In their comments, they claim that the earlier-released court order favors JSS interns for confirmation jobs before August 1.
Judge Bryrum Ongaya claims that the verdict made by the Employment and Labour Relations Court on April 17, TSC, violates the intern teachers’ right to a fair employment environment because they are licensed instructors with qualifications.
