JSS teachers vow to continue with their demonstrations.
Teachers at Embu County Junior Secondary School have been reprimanded by school officials for threatening them on Thursday over their protests.
The educators claimed that certain officials are threatening them over the phone as a result of their pursuit of terms for long-term, pensionable employment.
We’re concerned that some of our members are being intimidated by senior TSC and other government officials. Chairperson of the Embu County JSS David Ngari stated, “We want to let the state know that we won’t be starting classes again until our grievances are addressed.
They staged protests in the Embu East subcounty at Runyenjes town.
In addition to employment terms, they listed inadequate working conditions as the cause of the demonstrations.
All around the nation, there have been JSS demonstrations.
The teachers pleaded with the government to abide by the court’s decision to reject their internship.
The Employment and Labour Relations Court’s Bryrum Ongaya rendered a decision on April 17th, stating that TSC had infringed against the intern teachers’ entitlement to fair labor practices.
“The first respondent (TSC) would be entitled to employ interns if the respondents had demonstrated statutory regulatory or policy arrangements,” he stated.
“The first respondent should ideally hire registered teachers on nondiscriminatory terms in order to meet public schools’ optimal staffing needs.”
According to Ngari, subjecting qualified teachers to such circumstances is illegal.
“TSC has not fulfilled their commitment to provide interns with permanent and pensionable employment following a year of service. He stated, “We implore them to honor the court decision and maintain the pledge.
The teachers also took issue with TSC’s hiring practices.
They said that during social gatherings, the political class is giving out employment letters.
“At funerals, politicians are distributing employment letters.” We want our Members of Parliament to act in our best interests and refrain from viewing education as a side concern,” teacher Piera Wawira said.
The educators beseeched the heads of the institutions to cease fabricating information on the presence of junior secondary school instructors within their establishments.
Additionally, we would like the parents to understand that we are not in school. A teacher named Scott Njeru stated, “The headmasters should cease providing false information to the appropriate offices indicating the presence of JSS teachers within their schools.”
