Kenya gets UoN midwifery graduates employment in Oman – PS.
Kenya and Oman have reached an agreement that would allow University of Nairobi midwifery graduates to find employment in the Gulf state.
The disclosure was made on Friday by Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei, who stated that the agreement was struck on Thursday.
The PS said Kenya’s Foreign Affairs staff in Muscat facilitated the accord.
“Happy to report important developments in the relations between Kenya and Oman.” The recruitment of University of Nairobi graduates with Bachelor of Midwifery degrees into public health institutions in Oman is now possible thanks to acknowledgment of certification issued by the university yesterday, according to a statement released by Sing’oei on Friday.
“We are grateful to our team in Muscat for organizing and completing this transaction. More public and private universities in Kenya should take this lead, he continued.
As part of his plan to end unemployment in the nation, President William Ruto has pledged to securing employment possibilities for Kenyans abroad. This latest development indicates his commitment to this goal.
Speaking on May 1 at the 59th International Labour Day event in Nairobi’s Uhuru Gardens, the President stated that the government is now restructuring labor migration to guarantee that more young people obtain employment overseas.
“We deliberately aim to expand the employment opportunities available to young people in Kenya.” Additionally, it is the rationale behind our labor migration reorganization and the signing of bilateral labor agreements. According to him, the goal is for Kenya to be able to employ 250,000 people annually abroad.
According to Ruto, an increase in the number of Kenyans working overseas will also have a knock-on effect, increasing remittances from the diaspora and promoting development at home.
“I’m delighted that we have increased our remittances by approximately Sh50 billion from the previous year to this year. My goal is to increase our remittances from $4 billion (Sh524 billion) to $10 billion (Sh1.3 trillion) over the course of the next five years,” Ruto declared.
The President stated that since the nation is headed in the right direction, he thinks the milestone is doable.
In Kenya, the Kenya Bureau of Statistics reports that overall employment increased by 4.4% in 2023.
According to the 2024 Economic Survey Report, employment in the informal sector increased by 4.5% during the same time period, while 445.4 thousand jobs in the public sector were in the education sector.
According to the research, 343.9 thousand employment were in public administration in 2023.
