Keynan announces a Sh41 million scholarship bursary for Eldas students.
Eldas MP Adan Keynan has announced a Sh41 million bursary for students in the area attending secondary schools, universities, and colleges.
Keynan stated that the bursary is intended to promote equity and accessibility in education while revealing the funding.
According to him, the program is intended to encourage financial investments in the young of the community.
According to Keynan, the initiative’s core value is a dedication to offering financial aid to worthy students, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
During the launch, the legislator emphasized the significance of education as a driving force behind socio-economic advancement and female emancipation.
“One of the distinguishing features of the bursary fund is its inclusivity, with special provisions set aside for students from marginalised communities and those facing financial hardship,” he stated.
“Every student, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to access education and unlock their full potential thanks to this commitment to equity.”
The local community enthusiastically welcomed the establishment of the bursary fund, seeing it as a big step toward empowering the future generation.
Parents, students, and education stakeholders expressed their thanks for the fund, stating that they think it will significantly change Eldas’ educational environment.
According to Keynan, the bursary fund is evidence of his dedication to education.
Education groups asked MPs to use the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) budget carefully in January.
They stated that Masters and PhD students shouldn’t be eligible for bursaries from MPs.
Instead of supporting bursaries for postgraduate students at domestic and international universities, Dr. Vincent Gaitho, secretary general of the Kenya National Association of Private Universities, believes that the NG-CDF kitty should be used to construct infrastructure for basic education and for development projects in constituencies.
Gaitho suggested that a measure allowing bursary monies to become revolving funds be tabled in Parliament.
“Those who receive bursaries ought to give something back.” Since we are cultivating human capital that will eventually be valuable to the nation, let’s make it sustainable through a revolving fund,” he continued.
Maliba The UDA secretary general’s office Strategic Communication adviser Arnold Nyajayi stated that it is unjust for someone pursuing a Master’s degree to receive funds from the CDF.
