KNEC Unveils Stricter New Anti-Cheating Measures Before the 2024 Exams
KNEC has announced plans to have candidates’ names, index numbers, and schools printed on their exam papers
According to KNEC CEO David Ngenjere, the move will prevent unregistered students from sitting for the examinations
Ngenjere also revealed that the morning and afternoon papers will be parked in different cartons to prevent cheating
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has unveiled new measures to prevent teachers and students from participating in exam irregularities.
KNEC CEO David Njengere announced that examination papers will be personalised with students’ details, including names, index numbers, and their respective schools.
“What we are saying is that we shall personalise the examination papers so that each candidate will have their details already printed. This means that in case of malpractices, we shall ask the candidate why they allowed their paper to be used by someone else,” said Njengere, according Capital FM report.
Njengere explained that this measure will prevent students from sitting for exams they did not register for and ensure that unregistered candidates cannot take the tests. Moreover, the council will not print excess papers.
Once the exams are completed, the section containing the student’s name will be removed to ensure impartial marking.
“At the end of each paper, the part containing the candidates’ details will [be] torn off and packed separately to guard against the examiners identifying the candidates during marking,” Njengere added.
Additionally, KNEC will pack exam papers in separate cartons for morning and afternoon sessions, keeping the afternoon papers sealed until the initial collection is complete.
The KCSE will start on October 22 and end on November 22, while the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will run from October 28 to November 20.
