KNUT expresses worries about teacher depression.
Concerns have been expressed by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Nandi South, regarding the nation’s growing number of teacher cases of depression.
Stephen Misoi, the Branch Executive Secretary, ascribed the increase to teacher mistreatment, intimidation, and unethical hiring practices.
Speaking to the media in the town of Nandi Hills, Misoi expressed concern about the fact that deaths and family breakups had occasionally resulted from the scenario.
The Union is really worried about the growing percentage of depressed educators. This is a result of unfair employment practices, intimidation, and harassment.
The education sector will be in grave danger if this is not prevented, he said. He claims that the state of affairs presents a serious threat to the education system, necessitating immediate action.
He voiced his displeasure with the hiring of instructors, claiming that nepotism and bribery have been prevalent in the profession.
According to Misoi, appointment letters are given out in the villages, and those who graduated a long time ago are locked out and those who graduated more recently are given consideration.
“In the villages, we have observed appointment letters being given out, favoring those who graduated recently while excluding those who graduated a long time ago. This can’t happen. Misoi continued,
“Those who are distributing the letters have a right, but they ought to at least take quality into account. The union called for the government to take immediate action to address the issue of understaffing in public schools, claiming that it poses a threat to the nation’s academic standards.
