Knut takes up the TSC-JSS interns standoff and requests the recall of all show-cause notices.
On Thursday, the Kenya National Union of Teachers declared that it will assume control of the employment contract disputes pertaining to intern teachers at junior secondary schools, who are presently staging protests around the nation.
Additionally, the union requests that the Teachers Service Commission retract all of the show-cause letters that it just sent to the JSS interns’ non-attending teachers.
According to Collins Oyuu, Knut Secretary General, the teachers “to a wider extent are right.”
Millions of students are impacted, according to Oyuu, by the demonstrations and standoff between the JSS interns and their company.
On behalf of the intern teachers, he stated that the union is prepared to oversee the return-to-work agreement with the business.
“Intern teachers although not employed on terms which make them unionisable, they are associate members as at Article III (15) of the Knut Constitution,” Oyuu stated.
Additionally, he requested that TSC create a structure to help resolve the conflict with interns in an amicable manner.
since the second week of the interns’ strike approaches, Oyuu issued an order for all “demonstrating teachers to report to their work stations immediately as Knut has already taken over the case.”
No teacher participated in the aforementioned demonstrations should suffer consequences, he stated.
The union has room for interns, according to the Knut boss.
“We would not wish to have them discriminated in any way simply because they have not been employed on permanent and pensionable terms and do not contribute to the union,” he stated.
According to Oyuu, the instructors are claiming that part V of the instructors Service Commission’s code of regulations is not being followed by their job terms.
According to him, instructors should work under contracts or on permanent, pensionable terms rather than as interns.
“TSC should never refer to teachers who have trained and qualified as interns,” Oyuu stated.
Oyuu claimed that he has already spoken with TSC about the issue.
Oyuu requested that TSC adhere to the 2015 Code of Regulations for instructors while hiring and employing instructors.
He pushed for an amicable resolution to the standoff between TSC and the interns.
Oyuu also stated that the court is considering the matter.
Taking a humble pie, he asked the interns to “agree to hand over the matter to Knut since the union has already demonstrated the interest to help find a lasting solution.”
He added that the union has long feared that TSC would eventually send the teachers show cause letters in an effort to start disciplinary proceedings against them.
Oyuu said, “In fact, these teachers have already been served.”
