KUPPET Announces Support For The Walkout of Intern Teachers.
KUPPET Announces Support For The Walkout by Intern Teachers. The JSS intern teachers strike has now received full backing from the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers. Teachers on internships have been demonstrating in favor of permanent positions with pensions.
The government has been asked by the union to set aside money so that the teachers might be hired on a permanent and pensionable basis.
Furthermore, there has been a threat from the ongoing strike. Over 2.5 million students in grades 7 and 8 have been significantly impacted by the walkout. In addition, excessive flooding around the nation caused two more weeks of school closures.
Akello Misori, the secretary general of KUPPET, emphasized the effects of the current strike. He described how education at junior schools around the nation has been suspended due to the strike. As a result, for the last two weeks, learners have not received any attention.

Regarding the matter, the Secretary General corresponded with the National Treasury, the Teachers Service Commission, and the Parliament. In order to guarantee that teacher grievances are addressed and normalcy returns, he requested their intervention.
Misori further stated that TSC must find a solution to this situation and guarantee that the 46,000 teachers are employed on a permanent and pensionable basis.
He pleaded with TSC to attempt to fix the employment crisis by renegotiation within the confines of the law. In an attempt to find a cooperative solution, the KUPPET secretary general has now requested an immediate meeting with TSC.
Treasury to set aside money for teacher confirmation
Treasury has also been urged to set aside money in order to confirm the teachers’ permanent and pensionable contracts. It demanded the prompt availability of money for the confirmation of all intern teachers in a letter dated May 14 and written to the principal secretary of the National Treasury.
The head of Nairobi’s intern teachers is Owino Okello. He restated the instructors’ vow to withhold their tools until their demands are fulfilled. This is true even in the face of constant threats.
He cited the Labour court decision that declared the internship program unconstitutional. The court determined that TSC’s hiring of certified and registered teachers under the internship program violated labor laws.
Okello stated that they will keep abstaining from attending schools in accordance with the court’s directions. The current walkout by intern teachers serves as a warning about the dangers facing the educational system. It implies that in order to end the strike, the teachers must be engaged on a permanent and pensionable basis.
KUPPET’S request that the government come up with a compromise demonstrates how much they regard the intern teachers. This necessitates a determination to put an end to the strike and restore order.
