KUPPET issues the govt a 7-day ultimatum on unpaid. health insurance deductions.
The government has been issued a seven-day ultimatum by the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Embu County to repay their health insurance deductions to hospitals.
They expressed their sorrow over the extreme hardship they are going through as a result of missed remittances, which have prevented them from receiving necessary medical care, at a news conference in Embu town.
The instructors, under the direction of branch secretary Jacob Karura, presented a somber picture of their current situation, claiming that they were being refused medical care because of the unpaid deductions and that many of them were turning to organizing fundraisers, or “harambees,” in order to pay for their medical bills.
“We have sent a letter regarding this issue to the Teachers Service Commission, but we have not heard back.” We will be forced to protest in the streets if the government ignores our pleas, as our teachers are suffering, Karura stated.
Similar to Karura, Eric Kimwere, a KUPPET official, highlighted the mental distress that the situation has caused teachers, characterizing it as an additional layer of suffering for already overworked educators. “We cannot fathom the mental torture we are going through.
With a frustrated voice, Kimwere said, “We dedicate our lives to teaching the next generation, yet we are forced to beg for basic health services.” The countdown has started. The teachers of Embu County have seven days left on the clock, and they are holding their breath in the hopes that their cries won’t go ignored.
Their tale is one of tenacity and resolve, bearing witness to their unshakable dedication to both their rights and their line of work. The country waits to see if the government will take responsibility and meet its obligations as the days pass.
They said that the teachers’ well-being and morale were at jeopardy and that their grievances may stifle instruction.
In order to protect their lives, teachers have appealed to the government to take notice of their concerns. Jacob Karura, the secretary general of Embu KUPPET, and other officials speak to the media in Embu town (left).
