KUPPET Shows Off Agreement With TSC To Recruit 20,000 JSS Teachers.
In order to close the staffing shortfall in junior secondary schools, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has reached an agreement with the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) to hire an additional 20,000 teachers.
KUPPET Chairperson Omboko Milema stated at a press conference in Naivasha that TSC made a commitment, following a six-day retreat he deemed fruitful, to hire more instructors.
“They said they had already asked the Parliament what the commission needed to ask,” he declared.
According to Milema, the TSC will have to pay Sh4 billion for the hiring.
Additionally, KUPPET applauded a pledge to elevate 36,000 educators at an expense of Sh7.8 billion.
Milema mentioned that the President has authorized the addition of a few theatrical teachers to TSC.
At the Kenya National Music Festival State Concert in 2023, President William Ruto issued the order, stressing the need to provide incentives for drama education.
In this cycle of promotion, President Ruto said, “teachers who have done phenomenal jobs by training these young people, writing scripts, and doing exemplary work should join those to be promoted.”
Following the merger of some retired and deceased instructors who had obtained promotions, TSC also committed to addressing complaints regarding incorrect promotions.
According to Akelo Misori of KUPPET, “We addressed concerns that there are some teachers who were allegedly promoted yet they had died or exited the union; these issues have been properly addressed in this retreat.”
KUPPET indicated trust in the promotion procedure, characterizing it as unbiased, equitable, and inclusive.
“With every county receiving an equal amount of available seats, the 36,000 instructors were promoted above board. We are happy with the work that was done, Misori said.
