KUPPET urges immediate release of the second term of school capitulation.
The National Parents Association (NPA) Chairperson, Silas Obuhatsa, is requesting that the government deliver monies as soon as possible so that schools may start rebuilding right once in response to damage from recent heavy rains.
Obuhatsa pointed out that these monies will also help sustain school operations, relieving parental stress.
Some parents were worried that since Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu had not communicated with them promptly about the postponement, they would have to pay for transportation again.
The parents said that they were unable to pay their fees on time because of the high cost of living and the destruction caused by the heavy rains.
According to Obuhatsa, while certain households lost everything as a result of the flooding, other households had to be taken into account.
He said it would be fair to be lenient with fee payments for certain families because of the difficult circumstances they have had and the property they have lost.
Obuhatsa underlined the need for the government to disburse funding as soon as possible so that schools may start rehabilitation right away in light of the devastation caused by heavy rains.
He added that by helping to support school operations, these money would also lessen the burden on parents.
Akello Misori, the secretary general of the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), applauded the decision but demanded that capitation be released right away.
Misori asked that monies be sent to schools in a timely manner by Monday in order to allow teachers to greet students with ease. Failing to do so, he said, would lead to an ongoing cycle of crises.
