Kusnet now demands that the CBA it agreed with TSC be fully implemented.
The Teachers Service Commission is requested by the Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) to hasten the full implementation of the 2018 collective bargaining agreement.
While some of the agreement has been implemented, according to the union’s secretary general James Torome, members have been stuck in the same work groupings for a long time.
According to Tarome, not all of the career advancement recommendations made in the 2018 CBA have been put into practice.
The teacher’s union bemoaned the members’ continued stagnation within the same job group, even if their skills were comparable to those of teachers of regular students in regular schools.
The TSC office is accumulating dust on the proposals. “We desire that the commission act swiftly and execute our CBA,” he declared.
Among other things, the agreement made sure that its members were promoted and that more teachers were hired to help with the severe teacher shortage in the field.
Tarome, however, applauded the commission for hiring 6,000 additional teachers, stating that this will significantly alleviate the severe teacher shortage.
He applauded TSC for providing compensation for instructors who use walking aids in addition to employment. During a consultative meeting in Vihiga County, the instructors gave a speech.
He declared, “Teachers who use walking frames will receive an allowance of Sh20,000 per month, just like those who use crutches.”
According to him, the panel will also take into account placing teachers who use frames in the same category as those who walk with both hands.
He requests that the allowances be retroactive to March of current year. Tarome advised them to adhere to the necessary standards in order to be eligible for allowances.
He went on, “We won’t have to pay taxes either.” It is not yet time to implement the CBA for the special needs instructors.
For many years, the members of the same job category have remained stagnant. Teachers in charge of normal schools, according to the union leader, have been elevated to higher grades. Tarome stated, “We should be paid well because managing students in special schools is not easy.”
Kusnet now demands that the CBA it agreed with TSC be fully implemented.
