Eleven applicants are on the Public Service Commission’s (PSC) short list for the Chief Executive Officer/Secretary post.
They come from a variety of counties, including Homabay, Marsabit, Narok, Bungoma, Elgeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, Garissa, and Migori. There are six men and five women among them.
They are Sylvester Odhiambo Obong’o, Mahat Osman Shale (PWD), Joan Machayo, Christopher Leparan Tialal, Bahati Keranga Mwita, Judy Wangechi, and Irene Cherotich Asienga.
The others are Paul Famba, Juliana Nashipae Yiapan, and Gababo Dido Jillo.
On May 22–23, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., interviews are scheduled to take place at the Commission House on Harambee Avenue in Nairobi.
On the first day, Wangechi, Obong’o, Osman, Machayo, and Leparan will be interviewed.
PSC Chairperson Anthony Muchiri stated in a notification that candidates should arrive at the site at least fifteen minutes before the commencement time.
The original copies of their ID cards, transcripts, and certifications from their education and career, as well as any additional supporting documentation, must be carried with them.
They should also present clearance from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), a recognized credit reference bureau, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), and a police clearance certificate, all of which are current and valid.
Additionally, the candidates must present a physical copy of their online self-declaration application acknowledgement receipt or a self-declaration form that has been properly stamped for the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) job application.
In addition, they must have, if available, a recommendation from appropriate professional bodies and associations as well as a letter of recognition of qualifications from the Commission for University Education (CUE) for candidates with degrees from foreign universities.
On or before May 20, 2024, the public is asked to participate in the process.
PSC published an announcement in the local daily on April 3 to start the search for a new CEO. Interested parties have until April 23 to submit their applications.
Simon Rotich will be replaced by the next CEO. Rotich took on the role on August 1st, 2019.
As per the regulations, the CEO is eligible for reappointment after a period of five years.
In addition, the CEO serves as the commission’s seal custodian, financial officer, and head of the secretariat.
The office holder is in charge of carrying out the commission’s decisions, assigning tasks, managing the workforce, and making sure that everyone complies with the public service ideals and principles.
Along with carrying out any other responsibilities delegated by the commission, he or she is also in charge of creating and submitting the programs required to fulfill the commission’s mandate.
