According to reports, the motorist tried to cross a flooded river, which resulted in the incident that happened near Maralal-Wamba Road.
The incident happened just hours before Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, announced that the schools would reopen on Monday, May 6.
According to a letter sent by the Ministry, Machogu made the decision after learning that most schools had experienced flooding from severe rains for the most of the previous week.
“In the face of the ongoing heavy rains, the Ministry of Education last week directed its field officers to submit data from all Basic Education Learning Institutions countrywide to assist the Government in assessing the readiness of the schools for the Second Term opening on Monday, April 29, 2024,” the statement issued by Machogu read.
“Reports received at the Ministry of Education corroborated with data from other relevant Government agencies, show that a number of schools in various regions of the country have been adversely affected by the rains.”
