Moi University publishes a redundancy notice because of a decline in revenue.
Moi University has issued a notice to employees and their unions to declare redundancy due to financial constraints.
The notice issued by Vice Chancellor Prof. Kiplagat Kotut noted that the redundancy will affect a number of employees who are members of University Academic Staff Union (UASU) as stipulated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the union and Moi university.
It further noted that the decision has been necessitated by a reduction of revenue brought about by decline in student numbers. This, the University says, has created a difficult operating environment making it a challenge for the university to meet its financial obligations including payment of employee emoluments.
“As a result, we are compelled to review our operations and adjust the workforce accordingly so as to ensure sustainability of the University,” said the notice.
During the notice period, the university’s management will engage in consultations with the affected employees and their union representatives, in accordance with the law and the UASU CBA.
The notice indicated that the employees affected will be entitled to severance pay, salary in lieu of notice, payment of accrued leave days and any other unpaid benefits due to them.
