Most recent TSC news about changes that impact most teachers.
New modifications to the requirements for holders of PTE (Primary Teachers Education) certificates have been notified by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
According to the commission, a certificate by itself is no longer sufficient to obtain a teaching license at a primary school.
The data is from a Teachers Service Commission (TSC) study that was made public.
The commission states that as all primary schools will begin to fully implement the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) in Grades 1 through 6, commencing in 2024, primary school instructors holding only PTE credentials will no longer be relevant.
Consequently, the commission has additionally declared that P1 teachers who have finished Competency Based Teacher Education (CBTE) shall be hired.
TSC has made it clear that PTE instructors will be eligible for employment if they have upgraded to the current Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE).
Furthermore, the commission has declared that a Diploma will be the minimal qualification required to enter the teaching field; this implies that primary school jobs would only be offered to instructors who possess DPTE.
Teachers hired under this category will be assigned to job group C1, a sign that job group B5, which presently serves as the entry-level position for primary school teachers, would soon be eliminated.
There are 46,000 teachers working as interns at TSC at the moment.
In 2025, they will be confirmed to permanent terms in accordance with the TSC structure.
According to TSC’s most recent data on teacher employment, 20,000 intern teachers were hired in February and an additional 20,000 in August.
According to data, TSC appointed 1,995 intern teachers to schools in January 2022.
In addition, 4,005 teachers whose one-year contracts expire in December 2021 had their internship contracts prolonged by the commission.
This change in rules won’t affect any intern instructors at primary schools because TSC will validate their employment following a two-year tenure.
P1 instructors received 10 points in the previous TSC recruiting process for switching to the Competency Based Curriculum.
Many primary and nursery school teachers enrolled in upgrading their certifications to the CBC Diploma after TSC made its announcement.
