Universities have a cumulative capacity of 278,006 for degree programmes. Only 153,274 students were placed out of the 201,146 who qualified for admission.
A total of 47,872 students who qualified for university admission with a mean grade of C+ in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) chose not to pursue a degree.
According to data from the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), public and private universities continue to under-enroll in their respective degrees.

Competition for courses at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has also increased, with 56,516 individuals applying for admission.
The campuses have a total capacity of 17,172. The KUCCPS has stated that 19,653 candidates have been placed, representing a 2,481 over-enrollment rate.
Furthermore, 199,980 students have been placed in diploma courses, with those who received a mean grade of D+ and D- (280,174) placed in certificate courses and those with D- and E (213,932) placed in artisan courses.
KUCCPS received 899,232 candidate results for placement.
