NTSA advises schools to provide buses for inspection ahead of schedule.
The National Traffic Safety Authority (NTSA) encouraged schools to present their vehicles before the May 1 deadline by releasing recommendations on Thursday on how drivers can schedule appointments for vehicle inspection.
It was disclosed by the road safety enforcement body that a number of schools had already followed the instruction and brought their buses in for examination.
“Earlier today, several schools presented their vehicles for inscpetion to assess their mechanical soundness and whether the speed limiters installed on them are functional.”
As instructed by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, the NTSA urged other schools to follow suit and submit their cars for examination in a statement on X.
As the deadline of May 1, 2024, draws near, the NTSA stated, “We urge all schools to comply with the directive to avoid any inconveniences to learners and parents/guardians.”
According to the authority, the cars will be examined to determine whether the speed limiters that are mounted on them are working and to ensure that they are mechanically sound.
Every commercial vehicle and Public Service Vehicle (PSV) is inspected by the authority, which then certifies the vehicles (E-sticker). The NTSA smartphone app is used to verify the legality of the inspection, according to the NTSA.
According to the authorities, each inspection costs Sh1,050, and the service is rendered the same day.
Go onto your eCitizen account and choose the NTSA service portal to schedule an inspection.
After that, choose the car and hit “View.”
Next, select the type of inspection by clicking on “motor vehicle services.”
Next, submit the application, pay for the inspection, and click “complete” to confirm the procedure.
After choosing your preferred inspection location and date, click “book now” and “complete booking.”
Proceed to the application history section and download and print the booking slip and receipt.
When you bring your automobile for inspection at the preferred center you selected when you first booked the inspection, the NTSA stated that you will need to bring the payment receipt and booking slip.
On Tuesday, April 9, the government issued an order requiring all educational institutions to turn in their cars for inspection by May 1, 2024.
Kipchumba Murkomen, the cabinet secretary for transportation, has mandated that all school vehicles that transport students can only run from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The order was issued in response to a spike in traffic incidents, many of which included university buses and resulted in the deaths of multiple students.
According to a statement from Murkomen, “all educational institutions are required to present their vehicles for inspection by May 1, 2024, to assess their mechanical soundness and whether speed limiters installed on them are functional as public engagements on the Draft Traffic (School Transport) Rules 2024 advance.”
