Ruto Names 20 New Judges for the High Court [LIST].
Twenty new High Court judges have been appointed by President William Ruto.
Ruto announced the appointment of the 20 in a Gazette notice dated Thursday, May 9, after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) completed successful interviews.
A few names who have been appointed are Julius Kipkosgei Ng’arng’ar, Andrew Bahati Mwamuye, John Lolwatan Tamar, Benjamin Mwikya Musyoki, Alice Chepngetich Bett Soi, and Moses Ado Otieno.
The appointments also included Wendy Kagendo Micheni, Benjamin Kimani Njoroge, Julius Mukut Nangea, Helene Rafaela Namisi, Emily Onyando Ominde, Alexander Muasya Muteti, and Wendy Kagendo Micheni.

Noel Onditi Adagi Inziani, Linus Poghon Kassan, Stephen Nzisi Mbungi, and Caroline Jepyegen Kendagor were also appointed.
Additionally, Joe Omido Mkutu, Rhoda Cherotich Rutto, and Tabitha Ouya Wanyama were chosen by the Head of State.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 166 (1) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint the following to be Judges of the High Court of Kenya,” according to a portion of the Gazette.
Ruto appointed the individuals in accordance with the JSC’s recommendations, which are led by Chief Justice Martha Koome.

For the April interviews, a shortlist of 95 individuals was created.
“The selection interviews were held by the Commission from April 3rd, 2024 to May 3rd, 2024. One candidate was named Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, four candidates withdrew their applications, and 95 candidates were interviewed in total.
“After lengthy deliberations and consideration of the constitutional imperatives of merit, gender, regional/ethnic balance and affirmative action, the Commission has recommended the under-listed persons for appointment to the Office of Judge of the High Court of Kenya and submitted their names to His Excellency the President for appointment pursuant to Article 166 (1) (b) of the Constitution,” stated the Chief Justice.

In the days that follow the appointment, the 20 will take an oath of office.
