Schools To Re-Open Monday May 13 For Second Term.
All schools will reopen, as declared by the administration. This is a much-needed move after a protracted closure owing to disastrous floods.Officials from the State House have verified that on Monday, May 13, 2024, schools will formally restart.
President William Ruto discussed this matter with representatives from the Laikipia and Kajiado regions during a private meeting. Mike Gitonga, the Secretary of State Functions, emphasized the importance of starting educational programs by quoting President Ruto’s directive.
Reopening schools on Monday is in line with the Kenya Meteorological Department’s advisories, which indicate that rainfall intensity will begin to decline later this week. A number of government organizations, notably the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), are working together to accelerate the construction and repair of damaged school infrastructure because they understand how urgently things need to return to normal.
The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) are also actively participating in nationwide flood mitigation initiatives, which strengthen the government’s response to the catastrophe.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu postponed the reopening of schools, which was originally set for Monday, April 29, because of security concerns brought on by the severe rains. But when things continued, President Ruto took action, which further delayed the start of classes again.
President Ruto ordered the Ministry of Education to delay the reopening until conditions considerably improved during a national speech on Friday, May 3, putting staff and student safety first.
