Six nearby schools receive a literacy program from Standard Group.
To improve student literacy, Standard Group has started the Newspapers in Education (NIE) program in six Kuria East, Migori County, schools.
Kendege Primary School, Gibarori Comprehensive and Secondary Schools, Nyaitara Comprehensive School, Sanchawa Primary School, Maeta Comprehensive School, and Maeta Secondary School are among the schools.
The NIE program manager for Standard Newspaper, Christopher Gisiri, expressed confidence that the effort will significantly contribute to the academic success of Kuria East schools.
“Copies of The Standard Newspaper will be sent to the schools every Tuesday,” Mr. Gisiri stated.
For an entire term, the schools are supposed to receive 22 copies apiece. Accompanied by Alex Giggs, a representative from the office of Kuria East MP Maisori Kitayama, Gisiri stated that in order to improve student performance, more schools should implement the program.
Language proficiency will be enhanced for the students, according to Moses Otieno, headteacher of Nyaitara Comprehensive School.
“We’ll replace it with the storybooks,” stated Mr. Otieno.
The senior master of Maeta Secondary School, Ben Mwita, emphasized the significance of information power.
We are a really happy school. Continue coming to see us with these honorable goods, Mr. Mwita said.
The newspapers, according to the Kiswahili and English language instructors at the schools, will promote a reading culture and aid in the linguistic proficiency of the students.
According to Edna Miranyi, a Kiswahili teacher at Gibarori Comprehensive School’s Junior Secondary School division, “I will have an easy time handling my learning area.”
Headteacher Edith Wegesa of Sanchawa Primary School thanked the kind gesture and predicted continued success for the institution.
As a school, we’ll be better informed, and students’ language skills will advance. With 230 students, the school requires additional copies, according to Ms. Wegesa.
