State must remove phony degrees from colleges and universities.
Principal Secretary of the State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training Esther Muoria (pictured) stated that the government has plans to create a system to filter out fake degrees and certificates from national universities.
She stated as much yesterday, while presiding over a stakeholder workshop on validation of the National Policy Framework for accreditation system on qualifications in Machakos County.
Once implemented, the proposed framework will establish an accreditation system that regulates the registration process for awarding institutions and their respective qualifications.

The PS issued a warning, saying that going forward, no higher education institution will award certificates without first registering with the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).
“These revisions are consistent with the creation of a National Accreditation system. From now on, the Kenya National Qualifications Authority must register in order for any certificate to be granted.
This pledge maintains that integrity and quality are the most important values. By connecting our efforts with globally recognized standards, this program will have a significant impact on the adoption of global best practices and the promotion of lifelong learning, said Muoria.
The move came just a few days after Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission began investigating 2000 people in response to President William Ruto’s instruction to crack down on any state personnel who were in possession of forged documents.
