State to make clear what happens to teachers who don’t have degrees.
The Senate has asked the government to be transparent about what happens to teachers who hold Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and Primary Teachers Education Certificates (P1).
It adheres to the most recent guidelines policy from the Ministry of Education, which requires a minimum of a Diploma for instructors in both elementary and special education.
Munyi Mundigi, an Embu senator, requested a statement from the Standing Committee on Education, stating that the government ought to provide guidance regarding the situation and future possibilities of the impacted educators.
Declare how many educators with P1 and ECDE certifications are now working for the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and county governments, according to Mundigi.
Additionally, he requests that the government supply the schedule for the suggested upgrading program so that the less-qualified instructors can complete the necessary diploma programs in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Education.
He asked greater clarification on the status of the Blended Upgrading Program, which was originally supposed to begin post-normalization of the school calendar following disruptions caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic and was stated in Ministry circular NO. MOE HQS/3/1/ (50).
In addition, Mundigi requests that the government take action to help TSC teachers who have been denied the chance to further their education to a diploma level due to the Blended Upgrading Program’s cancellation.
It was recommended by a task force that mandatory training for P1 and ECDE instructors start in October 2021. At the conclusion of the training, the learners received a Diploma Certificate.
There are four DPTE (Diploma Elementary Teacher Education) positions available in the upgrading program, and five DECTE (Diploma Early Childhood Teacher Education) positions.
Both will take the entire allotted time for practice and coursework.
All of the subjects offered in the training area are taught by program graduates.
For DPTE and DECTE, the total material and academic hours in the upgrade programs is 786 and 1176 hours, respectively.
While both PTE and ECDE upgrades need 300 hours of teaching practice, DECTE upgrades cover all subject areas with more hours than PTE upgrades.
Teachers in P1 only study subjects that they did not learn in college.
