Students enrolled in TVETs and universities can begin applying for loans.
The official opening of the scholarship and loan application portal for incoming college and technical and vocational students is scheduled for tomorrow.
Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu said in a statement on Monday that the application period was originally scheduled to commence on Saturday, June 15, but the ministry moved it up to coincide with Eid ul-Adha celebrations.
After admission letters were received, applicants for loans, bursaries, and scholarships would submit their applications through the Higher Education Financing (HEF) Portal, which Machogu introduced in July of last year. The approach was developed to allocate funds for higher education directly to each student.
In order to be eligible to apply, a student must have been placed at one of Kenya’s approved public universities or TVET schools to pursue an undergraduate degree, diploma, craft certificate, or artisan course by the Kenya Universities and schools Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
“In the spirit of leaving no one behind, we wish to reassure all parents, guardians, and students that the Government will allow sufficient time for all eligible learners to apply for the funding in the form of scholarships and loans.” said the CS.
