Subject List for CBC Senior School. Kenya’s education system is undergoing change right now. 2.6.3.3.3 Curriculum will replace the previous 8.4.4 Curriculum.
The competency-based curriculum is the name given to the new curriculum. Since its implementation, the pioneer class has advanced to grade 8.
They will move to grade 9 the next year while still attending primary school.
There have already been some new learning areas added. Books that have been examined and authorized by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) have been distributed by the government.
Furthermore, offered are curriculum designs that assist teachers in managing the subject areas.
In the beginning, junior schools had fourteen instructional areas. Two more were deemed optional, leaving 12 as required.
However, the government, through KICD, decided to combine the learning areas into nine due to the massive workload and insufficient human resource.
The KICD is currently racing against the clock to create senior school curriculum designs. This is because the first cohort will be moving to senior secondary in 2026.
Since key subjects will be taught in the senior school, this approach aims to improve it. Students will also need to select a pathway based on their aptitudes.
As a result of this major comprehensive process,the KICD is fully reviewing 46 subjects.
