4. Police abstract proving that the certificate if it is lost.
5. Copy of ID or passport.
6. For minors, the parent or guardian’s original birth certificate and original national ID are required.
7. Original confirmation from the Registrar of Persons on your identity.
8. A recommendation letter from your employer to KNEC, where applicable.

1. Here are the steps on how to replace lost KCSE certificate online
To replace your lost certificate, you need to go to the KNEC portal lost certificate online, QMIS. Click https://qmis.knec.ac.ke to register an account if you don’t have one.
Provide your personal details, such as full name, mobile number, postal address, and email address. After registration, you will receive your login credentials via email.
2. Check for login credentials via email
Please check your inbox for an email from “QUERY MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM.” Inside, you will find the login details, including your Username and Password.
3. Login to the QMIS
Enter the username and password on the QMIS external login window. Remember to check that you enter these details correctly to avoid failure.
4. Click on the “Lost Certificate” Menu

Once logged in, select “Lost Certificate” from the menu on the screen. Then enter your Exams Index Number, type of exam, and the year you took the exam. Click the “Find” button.
The system will verify your information and show your full name in the “Name” box. Click on your name to proceed.
5. Attach all the required documents
Attach the documents you prepared above, which include a copy of the lost certificate, or results slip, a copy of ID, a colored passport-size photo, a police abstract, and confirmation from the Registrar of the person (found at the NSSF building). Once completed, click the “Attach” button.
6. Submit the application
Once all your documents are attached, click the “Submit” button to send the application.
7. Pay Fee Via Mpesa
Once you have submitted it, KNEC will send you a unique Paybill number and Account via SMS. The text will show the total amount to be paid, including VAT, which will be Ksh. 5220. Make the payment immediately to avoid complications.
8. Await and track the processing of your certificate
Once payment is completed, KNEC will process your request and let you know. You can also track your KCSE certificate replacement application through the QMIS.
9. Collect your replacement certificate at the KNEC offices
When the certificate is available for collection, KNEC will notify you. Visit the KNEC offices for collection with your valid ID or passport to collect the certificate in person. In the case of a minor, they should be accompanied by their parent or guardian, who should carry the original birth certificate of the minor and the ID of the parent/guardian.
