TSC Recipients of Salary Increases. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) intends to implement phase 2 of the teacher salary rise, which will benefit those who were employed as of July 1, 2023. The start of this is planned for July 2024.
Allocation of Budget
TSC plans to implement phase 2 of the teacher pay increase in accordance with an agreement made public by Kiharu Member of Parliament, Honorable Ndindi Nyoro, at the unveiling of the 2024–2025 budget appropriation allocations.
According to these budget predictions, TSC was allocated the largest portion of the funds for education.
The teacher employer will get Sh 369.94 billion, part of which will be used to implement the Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) for the years 2021–2025.
Agreement Between Teachers’ Unions and TSC
A CBA agreement had already been reached with TSC by the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), and the Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET).
The phases of the pay augmentation agreement were signed on August 28, 2023.
The agreement stated that beginning on July 1, 2023, the teacher compensation rise will be applied in two phases.
TSC is now utilizing the agreement’s first phase, which went into effect on July 1, 2023, and ends on June 30, 2024. After then, the second and last phase was put into action. It runs from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
Additionally, under the following clusters, instructors would get varying rates for housing allowances;
Nairobi City is included in the first cluster.
Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyeri, Eldoret, Thika, Kisii, Malindi, and Kitale municipalities are included in Cluster 2.
Other former municipalities are included in the Third Cluster.
Cluster 4: this group includes every other area.
TSC Salary Increase Recipients
TSC adhered to the conditions of the first phase of the agreement while setting the House allowance rates for Clusters 1, 2, and 3.
The panel did, however, examine Cluster 4, whose rates would be implemented in two phases.
According to TSC, the first phase of the deal went into effect with the August 2023 paycheck. Retroactively, the arrears were applied to January 7, 2023. Following this is the second phase, which is due for payment on January 7, 2024.
In June 2024, employers will provide information to teachers. This will deal with expectations for when the second phase is implemented as needed.
