Treasury releases school capitation funds of sh36b for second term.
As schools get ready for a three-day midterm break, the government has distributed Sh36 billion in capitation money for the second term of current academic year.
Programs for free day junior secondary, free day secondary, and free day primary schools will be supported by these monies.
Under the free day secondary education scheme, secondary schools will receive the majority of the cash, or Sh19 billion.
Primary schools will receive Sh2.74 billion, while junior secondary schools would receive Sh14 billion.
Willy Kuria, the chairman of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association, confirmed the payment but pointed out that there is no government directive on how to use the money.
Although money has started to seep into our school accounts, vendors are already camped out at our facilities awaiting payment. We’ll use the money to pay off debts,” Kuria declared.
The money has already been deposited into schools that have accounts with National and Equity banks; deposits should appear in other banks’ accounts by Friday.
CS Education During the announcement of the fourth National Education Sector Strategic Plan 2023–27, Ezekiel Machogu stated that 50% of the entire capitation was given to schools in the first term.
“Our efforts to guarantee that second term capitation will be released this month are doing well. Since both primary and secondary schools received 50% capitation, no school will close,” he stated.
Thirty percent of the capitation will be paid to schools in the second term, and the remaining twenty percent in the third.
