TSC Clarifies Reports Of Appointment Of New CEO.
Social media posts purporting to name Cheptumo Ayabei as the organization’s new CEO have been refuted by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
TSC marked the social media allegations as fraudulent in a post on social media on Tuesday, May 28.
Nancy Macharia, who was selected in 2015 to succeed Gabriel Lengoiboni for a five-year renewable term, is the CEO of TSC at the moment.
In 2020, her tenure was extended for a further five years, therefore she will continue to lead TSC as CEO until 2025.
Ayabei, on the other hand, is the director of finance for the commission. After starting up as a financial officer in 1999, he worked his way up to become director of finance at TSC.
The TSC Act of 2012 stipulates that the commission’s CEO must be appointed through a competitive process, which means a post opening must have been announced.
Part of the act states, “The appointment of the Secretary to the Commission under Article 250 (12) of the Constitution shall be through a competitive recruitment process.”
In addition to leading the Secretariat and serving as the Commission’s accountant and record keeper, the CEO of the TSC is also responsible for carrying out Commission decisions.
The Commission’s personnel must be assigned tasks and supervised; the Commission’s mandate must be facilitated, coordinated, and ensured to be implemented; and staff members must be held accountable for upholding public ethics and values.
