TSC increases salaries for second phase CBA and promote teachers.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been given a certain amount of money, according to the 2024–2025 budget predictions, to carry out the second phase of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which the Teachers Unions signed last year. TSC would raise salaries for second phase CBA and promote teachers.
A further Ksh. 1 billion has been allocated to the commission in the budget, which will allow it to advance educators who have remained in the same job category for years.
Teachers were to receive their pay increases in two stages; the first was paid out in August of the previous year. Salary increases for teachers will range from 7% to 9.5 percent. Teachers received an increase in their home allowances in addition to this raise.
It was seen that the teachers unions and the commission were signing a non-monetary deal.
The TSC CEO Nancy Macharia and her counterpart, Legal Director Cavin Anyuor, presented the agreement to the parliamentary committee in February.
According to budget estimates, the education sector would receive Ksh. 364.9 billion, or more than Ksh. 48 billion more than it did in the current fiscal year. According to the budget policy statement, it was recently reported that the Treasury had reduced the allocation by Ksh. 5.033 billion.
Although the commission did promote teachers this year, it was evident that 3,000 instructors at secondary schools and approximately 9,000 teachers at primary schools did not receive promotions. The upcoming fiscal year will see promotions for each of these educators.

Teachers’ house allowance improved last year as a result of the inked CBA, which was paid out over two years, with the first installment arriving in August 2023. An increment ranging from 7% to 9.5% was given to teachers.
The teachers unions approved a non-monetary agreement with this deal included as an addendum.
Nancy Macharia, the CEO of TSC, and Cavin Anyuor, the legal director, attested to this in their appearance before the parliamentary committee at February 2024.
The modifications made to teachers’ pay in accordance with each employment group’s signed CBA are shown in the table below.
