TSC Latest Updates on Recruitiment of 20,000 Teachers for Grade 9.
In order to reduce the workload associated with educating Grade 9 children by 2025, the government has announced plans to hire at least 20,000 new teachers.
During a speech in Bungoma, Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu of the Ministry of Education declared that eighth-graders will be advancing to ninth grade in elementary schools.
Machogu claims that in order to ease this transfer, the administration has already assigned tasks to every constituency in the country.
He emphasized that 6,000 classrooms will be built before the year ends thanks to a conditional Sh3.4 billion funding.
The National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) and the national government worked closely together to create this project.
Additionally, Machogu stated that the World Bank had given the government Sh9 billion to construct an extra 9,000 elementary school classrooms. With this extra financing, 15,015 classrooms will be able to be built by the end of the year.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) intends to hire 20,000 teachers, especially for Grade 9, in terms of teacher recruitment.
Machogu also mentioned that the curriculum materials for Grade 9 have been completed by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), and the process of making these educational resources available to the public is almost finished.
In response to speculations on social media, Machogu denied that all Grade 9 classes would be moved to secondary schools the following academic year.
Accusations that he gave the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) instructions to design the Grade 8 Kenya Primary Placement Examination (KEPPE) in order to allocate pupils to Grade 9 were also refuted.
He reaffirmed that the current system has not changed and that the claims that a new exam would be introduced by November of this year are untrue.
The CS refuted false claims that the State was trying to transfer Grade 9 teachers and pupils to secondary schools in order to implement the competency-based curriculum.
According to a fabricated circular, these teachers would be impacted by the change that would move junior secondary school teachers from elementary schools to high schools to supervise classes 9, 10, 11, and 12.
TSC has confirmed that there is a severe teacher shortage in junior secondary schools, highlighting the pressing necessity for the scheduled hiring in order to guarantee sufficient staffing and the successful execution of educational initiatives.
