TSC Notifies Updates Regarding the Recruitment of Trained Teachers.
The TSC’s plan adjustment, which will result in the hiring of P1 instructors with certificates—including those who haven’t upgraded—is cause for relief.
Teachers who hold P1 certificates and have not pursued the upgrade to a diploma certification will be hired, as per the commission’s statement, because this action is intended to guarantee inclusion and nondiscrimination.
TSC has maintained, however, that the P1 teachers will undergo a thorough retooling program following their employment in order to equip them to carry out the CBC curriculum in an efficient manner.
A plan to eliminate the credentials has already prompted the Teachers Service Commission to express worries about what would happen to P1 teachers and certificate holders.
The TSC had previously stated that TSC certificates would no longer be recognized and that diploma holders would make up the lowest cadre of teachers in the teaching profession.
Prior to the aforementioned proposal, a person who received a D plain might apply for a P1 teaching certificate.
Subsequently, the commission suggested increasing the minimum grade required to enter the teaching profession to a C.
The commission has now said that P1 instructors still have the opportunity to work in classrooms, even with the previously proposed plan that caused some worries. However, this is only if they receive retooling.
After Senators expressed worry that some instructors might decide not to undertake the requisite diploma course due to the existing high tuition fees levied by institutions, TSC reviewed its recommendation.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) examination fees and practical requirements were also refused.
TSC currently states that, in light of the introduction of the new competency-based curriculum, all P1 instructors need to be retrained.
In order to successfully execute the new curriculum and impart knowledge to students, it is now essential that all P1 teachers receive training in the new pedagogical techniques.
TSC has also declared that P1 teachers working for the Commission will be retrained in new pedagogical abilities through an extensive and all-encompassing program.
In order to upgrade their P1 Certificates to a Diploma Level, P1 teachers who graduated prior to 2019 and are not currently employed by the Commission began a nine-month upgrading program in 2019.
Additionally, TSC has declared that, as an employer that upholds the law, it will provide equal job opportunities to instructors who currently possess P1 certificates and those who have improved.
