TSC On Modifying Teachers’ Academic Requirements Moving Forward.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has made a statement regarding the initiative to reevaluate the academic prerequisites for both aspiring and practicing teachers.
The commission claims that the widely circulated rumors that it intended to demote head teachers of primary schools who did not hold a bachelor’s degree are untrue.
The commission has also rejected a story from a news item that purports TSC is working nonstop on a new data collection initiative to extract instructors who hold P1 certifications and diplomas.
TSC advised the public to disregard this fictitious article that is making the rounds on social media.
The President’s Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) suggested that principals oversee nursery, primary, and junior schools, which reflected the rejected deception.
The Ministry of Education was to implement a Comprehensive School system covering grades 1 through 9, according to a proposal made by the education committee.
It was further stated that Pre-Primary, Primary School, and Junior School should be administered as a single institution.
Additionally, it suggested eliminating the word “Secondary” from the present Junior and Senior Secondary School titles.
Teachers expressed concern about the above idea, claiming that the revisions would compel the headteachers to continue their education.
Instead of recommending that instructors be demoted in light of the new academic criteria, PWPER suggested that the Ministry of Education and TSC create a one-year mandatory retooling program for all graduates of pre-service training.
They will be able to produce and retain competent teachers with the support of the training in accordance with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
In addition, TSC must appoint three deputies to each school; however, the specifics of which instructors will be promoted—based on years of service or academic standing—have not yet been disclosed.
Additionally, TSC has asked school administrators to provide details in an Excel file, such as their highest degree (P1, Masters, or Degree).
