TSC Permanently Bans 65 Teachers from Teaching and Deregisters Them.
With quick action, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced that 65 teachers had been removed and deregistered from its record for unidentified violations.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) gazetted the deregistration and removal of 23 teachers with effect from October 23, 2023, and 43 teachers with effect from March 8, 2024, according to the notification that was released on Friday, April 20.
After a careful analysis of the cases involving these educators, a conclusion was made.
In the notice published in the gazette, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia confirmed that the teachers had been found guilty of the offenses charged against them under Teachers Service Commission Act of 2012 section 30 (2).
However, neither Macharia nor the Commission revealed any particular charges.
Section 30 of the Teachers Service Commission Act of 2012, which outlines the different reasons for removal from the register, governs the deregistration of these educators.
These grounds include being convicted of sexual or criminal offenses, using fraudulent methods to get registration, and being incapacitated as a result of a physical or mental disease.
In Section 30(5) of the Act, it is clearly stated that a teacher who is removed from the register loses their teaching status as of the removal date.
Furthermore, only the Commission’s directives may result in reinstatement to the register, guaranteeing strict adherence to professional standards.
The TSC Act’s Section 44(b) penalizes making false claims to be a certified teacher, underscoring the gravity of deception.
The seriousness of such deception is highlighted by the fact that those found guilty could face fines of up to Ksh100,000, imprisonment, or both.
In addition, there are consequences under the Act for both teaching without registration and hiring unregistered personnel in schools. The objective of these measures is to uphold the integrity and standard of education provided to all.
The TSC’s latest action is reminiscent of earlier initiatives of a similar nature. More than 100 educators lost their licenses in 2022 due to a variety of infractions.
Disciplinary concerns led to the removal of 73 teachers in 2023; a Gazette Notice revealed their identities and other facts.
CEO Nancy Macharia restated that individuals who are removed from the register are required to immediately stop teaching. Interestingly, ten of the instructors who were fired also lost their positions on the Board of Management (BOM).
